![]() ![]() If we produce a DisplayPort only capture card, the only market for it is PC users realistically, even then it's going to be dual PC setup. Expanding the customer base helps allow a product to benefit from some economies of scale in regards to price. You touched on this briefly, but indeed a big thing to consider is consoles would really need to launch with DisplayPort to be able help move units. The HDMI port will just drop the excess frames and only send 4K/60 to the capture card. I've done it for quite some time back when I was streaming. The best way is screen mirroring, and it should work for you if done properly. At the moment there's no clean setup and way to do this. I wouldn't hold your breath waiting for them to acknowledge this. ever? Or for at least a very, very long time. ![]() We're going to be stuck with HDMI capture cards for. So there's big money to invest for R&D, and they'll need a positive ROI on that. While more and more of us are playing 4K/, we're still in a wicked minority. Another is the market for this is fairly small. Plus they can get rid of the HDMI licensing fees! But on the "cons" side, they'd have to re-do the cards to support at least PCI-E x8, because the current x4 card doesn't have remotely enough bandwidth the handle the throughput. And yes, DP is vastly superior to HDMI in every, possible way. Yes, HDMI->DP adapters could be included for the console folks. As we all know, consoles live and die by HDMI, not DisplayPort. And that's the market they're targeting in reality. Sure, you can use a PC to stream/record, but you're playing on a console. Look into it a bit more deeply and you realize they're more concerned with the console market than the PC one. I've been on their case about it since I got the 4K/144 panel back in June 2018. It isn't going to happen at least not any time soon. Good luck convincing Elgato to support anything other than HDMI. 120hz was just an example off the top of my head.
